As part of our commitment to the education and technological advancement of Venezuelan ophthalmology, at #ideovzla we conducted a course for the use of a new equipment for the diagnosis of alterations in the frontal part of the eye: The Oculus Pentacam.
The students of the Postgraduate Course in Ophthalmology and Anterior Segment Specialization, and Retina of LUZ, were introduced to the Pentacam. A rotating camera, which uses the Scheimpflug principle, and allows images of the anterior segment of the eyeball to be captured through the study of maps of elevation, curvature, total corneal refractive power, anterior chamber depth and pachymetry data. Providing sharp, high-quality images by taking more than 25,000 true elevation points at the corneal level.
The exam is requested to perform detailed analysis in the preoperative planning of refractive and cataract surgeries; as well as the study of corneal topography, biometrics and aberrometry.
The exam is requested by the treating professional to diagnose and monitor visual diseases such as myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, contact lens adaptation, postoperative control of refractive surgery and corneal transplant.
