IT'S OFFICIAL: PRESENTATION OF THE IDEO-LUZ AFFILIATION AGREEMENT FOR THE POSTGRADUATE SPECIALIZATION IN RETINOLOGY AND ANTERIOR SEGMENT

On September 29, 2023, the "Dr. Antonio Borjas Romero" auditorium hosted the presentation of new Postgraduate Ophthalmology Specialization programs: Anterior Segment and Retinology.


The academic faculty of both programs will be the Instituto Docente de Especialidades Oftalmológicas (IDEO).


The event was attended by the Dean of the University of Zulia, Dr. Judith Aular de Durán, the Head of the School of Medicine, Dr. Sergio Osorio Morales, members of the LUZ University Council, civil authorities, residents of the ophthalmology postgraduate program, members of the university community, and national specialists, including the President of the Venezuelan Society of Ophthalmology, Dr. Tomás Ricardo Heredia.


Dr. Miguel Brito, the Director of the Retina and Vitreous department at IDEO, presented the Retinology postgraduate course. The goal is to train specialists with a high level of competence to provide an adequate approach and resolution of retinal pathologies in the community of Zulia and the west of the country.


Dr. Marco Ríos, the Director of the Anterior Segment of IDEO, commented that the Anterior Segment postgraduate program was established to train doctors in pathologies that cause reversible type blindness and to care for cases where blindness is irreversible.


During the event, the Faculty of Medicine presented the Merit Button to special guests and the Merit Medal to the participants in the creation of the programs. Dr. Freddy Pachano Arenas, the director of the Graduate Studies Division, reported that the two programs will be offered in the next graduate draft in 2024.


Dean Sergio Osorio Morales expressed his desire to establish more postgraduate programs in private clinics to guarantee the training of students with the latest resources.
